Wine Notebook, Part 12 (May 25, 2007)    by the Wine Baron

I tasted a tank sample of the De Sousa Pinot Noir Rosé 2006 a couple of days ago... just getting around to mentioning it now.  It will be bottled early July 2007.  Have you ever had a Rosé made from Pinot Noir before?  Not bloody likely. Wow, this is a treat. There will be only 40 cases bottled, so it will probably go to 4 or 5 astute restaurants in Toronto and maybe Langdon Hall in Cambridge Ontario. Be sure to ask for it. What a treat.

I brought a couple of vodka samples to one of my favorite retail stores in Toronto today for their staff to try. Extra Zytnia vodka is triple distilled and made from pure rye.  500 years of distilling tradition. This vodka is potent, clean and inviting.  The other one is a mind-blower. Wodka Zoladkowa Gorka is a medium amber/orange color with notes of orange and herb and anise.  This vodka is made with real oranges and herbs that have stomach-soothing qualities. In Polish, the name means "stomach bitters vodka."

Wrote a letter to the child we sponsor in Peru through World Vision. A gratifying thing.

Will meet with the wife and adult daughters tonight for beers. You guessed it, they will be Polish beers.
