Wine Notebook, Part 46 (August 22, 2008)    by the Wine Baron

By pure happenstance, I had the pleasure to meet Dan Aykroyd today. We talked wine and blues mostly. His Discovery Series wines are doing well in the marketplace and I told him I am looking forward to his upcoming Reserve Series. He told me he's particularly impressed with the Chardonnay Reserve (which is not out yet). I look forward to having it as soon as it hits. Dan was kind enough to sign a bottle of his Sauvignon Blanc for my wife.

We compared notes on favourite blues clubs in Chicago (where I lived for several years and which is still my second city). B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted was the first to club he referred to, which would be the first one I'd mention too. He recounted how he just happened to be there for the club's 20th anniversary celebrations. I was quick to share that I am the writer of the definitive history of the venue, having sat down over coffee a couple of years ago with club owner Rob Hecko to get the scoop. Enjoy the history article here. Learn more about Dan Aykroyd wines here.
