Wine Notebook, Part 49 (September 13, 2008)
by the Wine Baron
The
Baroness and I wanted a cozy wine and food experience
this rainy Saturday afternoon. So we went to Kacaba
Vineyards in Vineland. After a pleasant time in the
boutique and tasting bar, we ordered a Pinot Gris 2007
and award-winning Cabernet Franc Reserve 2004 along with
a cheese and meat platter. We repaired off to their
covered patio to sit and relax with our oenological and
epicurean treasures. The menu includes a nice range of
Kacaba wines and light fare. We sat in rich
looking oak chairs and table just a few metres away from
the nicely tended Cabernet Sauvignon vines ... The
overall experience was exactly what the Doctor ordered.
A respite in the middle of a hectic life.
Wine to rave about: Kacaba Cabernet Franc Reserve 2004
-
This wine
is big, bold and beautiful. It is very dark in colour
(always a good sign), with a fresh and lively aroma. The
flavours of red and black berries, black cherries,
tobacco and herbal notes entice the palate smoothly and
with finesse. A long and satisfying finish. This is a
very well crafted wine. Ultra fine. One of the two best
reds I've ever had from Niagara.
