Wine
Notebook, Part 5 (April 28, 2007)
by the Wine Baron Waited
8 weeks for this... some favorite wines finally
arrived in the warehouse. Arranged
the delivery of the very first Chateau
des Jaubertes Bordeaux wines to Niagara area
restaurants and private wine buyers. Feels good to
get this great discovery going in Ontario. Still
looking for Midwestern US distributors, primarily for
the Chicago market.
Conducted
wine tasting for staff of LCBO stores in Welland
Ontario. The De Sousa Dois Amigos Foch Baco 1.5 Liter is
an excellent value at $12.15 per bottle. Easy
drinking and food pairing wine.
Tasted
two cool
wines today:
Domaine
Charvin Cotes-du-Rhone 2004. A seriously delicious
wine with wonderful structure, spice and body. If
you want to be wowed, this is one to get. Charvin was also chosen by Parker as number 1 in his Men of the year. His revue reads “from 35 year old vines of Grenache, Syrah & Carignan it is a sensual, sexy, dense ruby/purple colored effort revealing a creamy texture, gorgeous levels of licorice, black cherry/ blackberry fruit, loads of Glycerin (14% Alc) and an authentic taste- drink over the next 4-5 years but it will keep
longer.”
Salustri
Santa Marta Montecucco Sangiovese 2004. Still
drinking it. Generous aromas. Traditional, big,
plummy wine. Gorgeous tannins, just right. A
pleasant wine from the relatively new Montecucco DOC.
