Wine Notebook, Part 53 (November 15, 2008)

and I went to the opening of an exhibition at Beckett
Fine Art in Yorkville this afternoon. The artist Ivan
Murphy was in attendance for the opening. He is a
Halifax-based painter of moving and interesting works of
art. It was good to see gallery owner Tom again and to
meet members of Ivan's family, including his father, an
Anglo who has lived in Quebec City for decades.
Following
the viewing of the gorgeous paintings, we went to Dimmi
Bar and Trattoria on Cumberland in Yorkville. The food
was very authentic Italian. I like that. The service was
attentive and excellent. And the wine we chose was quite
nice. I had been to Washington State wineries, so I was
pleased to see they had a Chateau Ste. Michelle.
The Wine
Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon
2005
This is an excellent wine. It's from Columbia Valley,
Washington, the home of truly memorable Merlot and
Chardonnay. I was at the winery in 2000 and was very
pleased with especially those two varietals from this
winery. This wine is both complex and approachably
friendly. It has a bigness, with aromas and flavours of
spice, leather and black cherry. It matched perfectly
with our pasta and other Mediterranean fare.
