Blog Note 65 (March 3, 2009)    by the Wine Baron

Great day. Got a lot done, so there's a sense of accomplishment.  I had a lot of web design work to do for an Ontario winery in the afternoon. Am making progress towards the goal of a complete site re-design. I'm pleased with my work, which is unusual, because I'm usually hard on myself on things creative.

This was an evening where the Baroness and I wanted to crack open a truly memorable wine. It could have easily been one of the Austrian wines we love... but we just enjoyed a bottle of Grüner Veltliner with Rod and Sigrid on Sunday, so we opted for a bottle of Valdivieso Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2005.  Lovely bright light red colour and fresh bouquet. Reminiscent aromas of muted strawberry and raspberry, spice and fresh fruit. Lovely acidity. Just right. We were trying to decide if it had been aged in oak for a little while. So I dug up a spec sheet on it and found that it had been aged 3 months in stainless steel barrels. 4 hours of skin contact, then the wine was made just like a white.

It's been a super day. Smiles all around!  Time to savour the experiences. This wine met the challenge with vigour.
