Wine
Notebook, Part 7 (May 2, 2007)
by the Wine Baron Left
Prince Edward County for Kingston and then on to
Toronto. Visiting liquor stores and selling wine to
restaurants is a tough job, but I'm glad the higher
powers left it to me to take care of it.
After a
lot of hard work, I stopped in on one of my three
favorite restaurants near the water in Kingston.
Then on
to Toronto to visit with the folks at Jamie
Kennedy Wine Bar. This upscale restaurant has a
welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. Of course one
of their great strengths is their wine list. Sommelier
Jamie Drummond chooses only the best wines from around
the world. He will not put a wine on the list that he
has not personally tasted and that he is not very
impressed with. That's the way to do it! We tasted
three wines, Chateau
des Jaubertes 2004, a red wine from the Graves
appellation, and both Ste Croix du Mont sweet dessert
wines by Chateau de Vertheuil Montaunoir (see notes
from yesterday). All three are from Bordeaux.
Jamie Kennedy will carry the Jaubertes 2004 shortly and
the 2005 when it arrives in early July 2007. They
will also list both Ste Croix du Mont.
I also
met Aron Mohr at Jamie Kennedy's. She is wine bar
manager and has a good nose for wine too and a very
pleasant style of dealing with the public. You'll be
well looked after by Aron.
Then on
to Oakville to meet with artist Dawn
Angela Seely. Not only an accomplished artist but
also a tour guide (like me). Good to compare
notes. I lead wine tours to Bordeaux. She leads
Artist Getaways to Italy. We are thinking of also
offering a joint tour that combines wine and art as the
focus subjects. More to follow on that...
