Wine Tasting Hints:

  1. Look at the color
  2. Smell the aroma (the nose)
  3. Taste (look for flavors, degree of tannins, acidity and body)
  4. The Finish (what's the aftertaste like)

Tasting Notes  -  Chateau Ste Michelle, Chardonnay

Produced by Washington state's oldest and largest winery, this is a good example of why you should explore the state's wines. Washington, by virtue of its cooler climate and obliging soil, produces excellent Chardonnay and Merlot. Compare this to California Chardonnay. You're in for a treat and a different experience. You'll find it a lot less acidic-tasting and smoother than most California Chards in the same price category. A friendlier wine.

The grapes for this wine are grown in the Columbia Valley (a great place to visit with its many charming wineries).

This Chardonnay has concentrated aromas and deep flavors. See if you recognize flavors of pear and ripe apples. Try to ascertain if this Chard displays two other characteristics normally found in this varietal: vanilla and butter.

This is a complex yet balanced wine with a smooth and silky finish.
