How to Find Wines You'll Enjoy
A. Get to know the wine regions. Start with a familiar New World region like Ontario, California, Australia or Chile. |
B. Try the varietals from the chart at right and take notes on the ones you like best and why. Get them from a New World region first. |
C. Now buy those same varietals from the old world wine regions in which they originate. Compare your findings, note the similarities and differences. |
D. Get to know the specific wineries of each region that you like best. |

NOTE: This process will take some time, but you'll find it to be an interesting and educational journey. Your palate will grow in sophistication and preferences as you continue to explore the world of wine!
We've suggested you experiment with varietals from Ontario, California, Australia and Chile because they're in your comfort zone. But move beyond them to the exciting wine areas of France. Later, be sure to do the same exercise with Italy and Spain. You'll discover history, pedigree and amazingly complex and interesting wines that will wow your palate. It's a wonderful journey!
