The
Baroness and I were invited to "The French
Connection" on Friday Nov. 27th. The
affair took place at
Eight Wine Bar in Toronto.
Zoltan selected the wines and
hosted the event.
We were delighted to sit down to a multi-course
meal paired with mystery wines. They were either
French or New World renderings of the Bordeaux
style. We had to guess what they were.
Each initial course had three white wines to go
with it. The latter courses were paired with
reds. With the reds, for example, we had
braised rabbit with grain mustard and ale cream,
duck confit with wild blueberry sauce; and
pan-seared squab with chili chocolate sauce. The
wines consistently paired very well with each
culinary selection. |

We were
surrounded by interesting and engaging people. The crowd
was having fun. As we savoured the sumptuous food, we were
busy guessing whether a wine was Left Bank, Right Bank, New
World, or Old... As we tasted and sipped, Zoltan attentively
made sure everyone was having a good time and was being promptly
served, even helping staff clear plates away. Our host
provided an educational, cultural, fun evening. A
first-class food & wine pairing, commentary, and experience.
