TEAM-BUILDING
EXERCISE WITHIN A WINE TASTING EVENT:
Our
wine tasting events are in a desirable
setting like an art
gallery, French
bistro, jazz club, museum, sports hall of fame, winery,
etc. The typical event is a stand-up and mingle event. We
sample interesting wines according to a theme. Our wine host pours the wine and describes the aromas,
flavors, balance and finish of the various wines.
Guests learn and enjoy in an entertaining way.
...
BUT, in addition to the free-form aspect of the event,
we have a team building exercise in which we split up into groups
and write tasting notes. One recent event had 30
attendees. After tasting 4 wines together, we split the
attendees into three groups. Groups One and Two
were charged with writing tasting notes on the fifth
wine (a Bordeaux-style Meritage). Group Three was
charged with judging the other two groups' tasting
notes. A winner was selected according to
merit. All ten members of the winner group
received a prize bottle of the wine!
The
team building exercise is done according to the team
style of management as advanced by such systems as Six
Sigma and others. Your own corporate system can be
applied if you desire.
